PDSA eLearning Module

Plan-Do-Study-Act

Build practical continuous improvement capability, one small step at a time

ALGIM PDSA eLearning Module

The ALGIM PDSA Learning Module gives local government employees a practical, structured way to improve services, solve problems and test new ideas without requiring a large transformation program or expensive external consultancy.

Designed specifically for the local government environment, the online module guides participants through the four stages of the Plan–Do–Study–Act cycle and includes practical templates and guidance they can apply to real workplace improvements.

Participants who successfully complete the module will also receive an ALGIM learning badge recognising their achievement.

Choose the purchase option that suits your organisation
The PDSA Learning Module is available through two purchasing models: individual access or an organisation-wide package.

Individual learner access
Individual access is ideal for employees, emerging improvement practitioners or small teams wanting to build their skills without purchasing an organisation-wide licence.

ALGIM will:

  • establish the learner’s access to the online learning platform
  • assign the PDSA Learning Module to the learner
  • provide access to the module’s learning content, templates and supporting materials
  • assist with technical access enquiries
  • issue an ALGIM learning badge following successful completion.

Individual learners complete the module through ALGIM’s hosted learning environment. ALGIM manages the learner’s account, module allocation and platform administration.

Organisation package
The organisation package is designed for councils that want to make the PDSA Learning Module available through their own internal learning management system.

The purchasing organisation receives:

  • the PDSA Learning Module as a SCORM-compatible learning package
  • the relevant module materials and supporting resources
  • downloadable templates and guidance documents
  • the ability to upload and manage the module through its own learning platform
  • the flexibility to make the module available internally in line with its own learning and development arrangements.

This model provides the council with the learning package to host within its existing environment, rather than requiring each employee to access the module through ALGIM’s learning platform.

What is included in the module?
The learning experience steps participants through each element of the PDSA methodology:
Plan: Define the issue or opportunity, understand the current situation and determine what change will be tested.
Do: Implement the proposed change on an appropriate scale and capture what occurs.
Study: Review the results, compare the outcomes with expectations and identify what has been learned.
Act: Decide whether to adopt, adapt or discontinue the change and determine the next improvement cycle.

The content has been developed using ALGIM branding and local government examples so learners can connect the methodology with the types of services, processes and constraints experienced by councils across Australia and New Zealand.

Who is the module for?

The PDSA Learning Module is suitable for:

  • employees responsible for improving services or internal processes
  • project and program team members
  • customer experience and service-design practitioners
  • business improvement and transformation teams
  • team leaders and managers
  • employees who are new to structured continuous improvement
  • councils that want to build improvement capability across their workforce.

No previous process-improvement qualification is required.

Why PDSA?

Continuous improvement can easily be pushed aside when councils are operating with limited resources and competing priorities.

PDSA provides a manageable way to begin. Rather than committing immediately to a large-scale change, teams can test an idea, examine the evidence and make an informed decision about what should happen next.

By providing formal learning alongside practical templates and tools, the module helps councils build internal capability and undertake improvement work using their own people and organisational knowledge.

Frequently asked questions:

Is the price per learner?

For individual purchases, yes. Each learner requires their own individual access.

The organisation package is purchased by the council and supplied for use through the council’s own learning management system.

Where do individual learners access the module?

Individual learners access the module through ALGIM’s hosted online learning environment. ALGIM establishes the account and allocates the module.

What does an organisation need to use the organisation package?

The organisation must have a learning platform capable of hosting a SCORM learning package. Its internal learning or technology team should confirm compatibility before purchase.

Are templates included?

Yes. The module includes downloadable templates and guidance materials designed to support learners in applying PDSA to workplace improvements.

Is the content specific to local government?

Yes. The module was developed for ALGIM using content and examples tailored to the local government environment.

Does the module include certification?

Learners who successfully complete the module receive an ALGIM learning badge recognising their achievement.

Is technical support included?

ALGIM provides reasonable support for individual learners experiencing access or platform-related issues. Councils purchasing the organisation package will manage their own learners through their internal learning environment.

Can several employees share one individual account?

No. Individual learner access is intended for one named learner. Councils seeking access for a larger group should consider the organisation package.
